The player worked with Old Trafford boss Van Gaal during the World Cup and the pair are know to have a good relationship. Saints manager Ronald Koeman could also be tempted into a move for his countryman as his side try to maintain their attempts to clinch a European spot next season.
Joao Moutinho - N/A
After an early drop in form Moutinho was linked with a move away from AS Monaco with Tottenham and United both looking into the possibility of signing him. However he has rebounded and has helped Monaco to the knockout phase of the Champions League where they play Arsenal. Despite rumours circulating that Moutinho was seeking a move out of France, he has recently pledged his commitment to Monaco and insists he is not paying attention to the interest surrounding him. He said: “I am not thinking about the January window, nor am I thinking about the end of the season. I don’t want anything to do with that. I am focused on Monaco.”

Kevin Strootman - £30 million
The Dutchman has recently returned to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and will be hoping to win his place back in Rudi Garcia's starting XI. Both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho are keen on landing Strootman this January, and according to reports, both managers are preparing £30 million bids following Roma's failure to reach the knock-out stages of the Champions League. However, the Serie outfit are adamant that Strootman will not leave the Italian capital whilst also hitting out at unsettling rumours in the media. Speaking to Radio Anch'lo Lo Sport, general director Mauro Baldissoni said:
"Our (club) president (James Pallotta) has already spoken about this and he gets angry with the rumours that link him (Kevin) to Manchester United. Our policy is that of investing in players that have quality but have room for improvement. Kevin is a young player with experience, and we want to build our future with players like him."
Gareth Bale - £90 million
Graham Hunter, Spanish football expert has stated that Bale is happy in Madrid despite rumours linking him to United. He also rubbished reports that Bale and Ancelotti do not see eye-to-eye and said that the only way that Gareth will leave Los Blancos is if he requests to be transferred.

The Colombian winger is reportedly unhappy at the Serie A club and Louis van Gaal is thought to be ready to offer him a way out. United and Barcelona were keen on the winger over the summer but both refused to match Fiorentina's valuation. But with the Italian media reporting that Cuadrado is unhappy, the Red Devils are poised to battle Barcelona for the Colombian. Cuadrado is said to be fed-up with the amount of playing time he's been afforded this season and wants a chance of scenery. United hope the 26-year-old will force Fiorentina's hand when the window opens, lowering their asking price.
