Louis van Gaal has three options to replace Luke Shaw at left-back when Manchester United travel to Southampton on Sunday.
The Reds boss will decide between Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young for the defensive slot after losing England international Shaw to the broken leg he sustained at PSV Eindhoven in midweek.
Blind moved wide when Rojo was introduced at the Philips Stadion for his first outing of the campaign while Young proved his adaptability last season, often in a wing-back role, but also as an orthodox defender.
When asked how he will replace the 20-year-old at Friday's press conference, van Gaal replied: "That is not any problem I think, but Shaw is the line-up player. I have already said that it is very difficult to replace him, certainly when he is in such good shape. But we have good replacements in Blind, Rojo and in Ashley Young."
Meanwhile, van Gaal hinted he may keep James Wilson despite suggestions the striker would go out on loan to the Championship.
"We have to consider that [keeping him here]," the manager told MUTV. "Can he play like last season without [getting] many playing minutes? That is not good for him. But, of course, the injuries for Manchester United are above all other interests so we have to consider that again."
